Welcome everyone to Episode 86 of The Stem Cell Podcast, where we feel it is really important for us to deliver you content that is current, as it’s happening. At the end of January a story was published in Cell describing, for the first time, a human-pig chimera. The story received a lot of mainstream press and is regarded as a very important study towards creating custom organs. Once we heard about this study, we knew we had to have someone from that study on the show, and that’s exactly what we have for you today, Dr. Jun Wu, first author on this study. To allow us more time to discuss this significant topic, we will not have a science roundup this week and will resume it next episode.
The interview with Dr. Jun Wu
This week’s interview is brought to you by STEMCELL Technologies. STEMCELL Technologies reminds us that they have several free newsletters available through Connexon news including Mesenchymal Cell News, which is one of 20 Connexon science newsletters, thousands of researchers worldwide are subscribed to. Mesenchymal Cell News also has two research sections: an In Vivo and an In Vitro section, so users can keep current with the latest advances as MSCs move towards clinical applications.
For the interview portion of the show, we bring on Dr. Jun Wu, a Staff Scientist in the lab of Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte at the Salk Institute. Jun Joined the Belmonte Lab in 2012. Today Dr. Wu will discuss his latest work published in Cell on human-pig chimeras.
After the interview, we close the show with a signature SCP rant.
